Becoming a Pupil Supervisor
The Bar Standards Board no longer prescribes the eligibility criteria for pupil supervisors except that a pupil supervisor must normally be a practising barrister. Pupil supervisors no longer have to apply to their Inn for approval, it is for chambers or the employer to decide who is suitable and to ensure they have received appropriate training.
Training
Pupil supervisors must receive training and refresher training that meets outcomes set by the BSB (Part 4B of the Bar Qualification Manual). The Inns of Court offer training to meet some of these outcomes. Members from all Inns of Court are welcome to attend these courses. They should book directly with the hosting Inn. Dates and locations are listed below. Please note that the cost of the course is £50.
Training Dates & Locations
You can train at any of the Inns, or Circuits, who run the same course. Please note that the courses are open to members of all the Inns, but members should book a place via the Inn that is hosting the session.
